Place- and Project-based Activities are the Focus of “Experience Fridays”

“Experience Fridays” are underway at River Grove! Every Friday from 1-3pm classes pair up to work on an outdoor, place-based project. For example, Jessica Hansen’s kindergarten class has teamed up with Adam Johnson’s fifth grade to install a pollinator/butterfly garden. Dawn Kroohn’s sixth grade and Sydney Fuerst’s kindergarten class have teamed up to design and build a mini golf course in the forest.

With guidance from the teaching staff, students design and complete their projects, taking ownership of each step of the process. The projects incorporate reading, language arts, science, social studies, and math standards along with additional skills such as planning, organization, time management, team work, and much more.

We will present our projects twice during the year. These will be wonderful opportunities for the students to share these experiences with family and friends!
