Equity and Inclusion at River Grove

Recent tragic events both locally and nationally have brought us all to clearer understanding of the urgent need to reaffirm nondiscrimination and inclusion in our communities. River Grove takes its Equal Opportunity Statement, located in the Parent-Student Handbook, to heart:
  • It is the policy of River Grove to provide equal educational opportunity for all persons. The school does not discriminate on the basis of: race, color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, marital status, parental status, status with regard to public assistance, disability, sexual orientation, or age. The school also makes reasonable accommodations for disabled students.
  • This policy applies to all areas of education including academics, coursework, co-curricular and extracurricular activities or other rights or privileges of enrollment. It is the responsibility of every school employee to comply with this policy conscientiously. Any student, parent or guardian having any questions regarding this policy should discuss it with the Administrator.

The role of schools is especially important in advancing equity and inclusion, which are critical to the success of our communities and our nation. River Grove’s teachers, administration, and board have begun a discussion about additional actions we can take. As one step, we would like to create an Equity and Inclusion Parent and Community Advisory Board to advise River Grove and help facilitate specific measures.

If you are interested in participating in this advisory board, please contact me (Drew Goodson, School Director: dgoodson@marineareaschool.org). In addition, if you have specific questions or concerns, please also contact me.

Thank you.
