River Grove combines strong academics with daily outdoor learning on a one-of-a-kind campus in the forest. River Grove Elementary is located just 15 minutes north of Stillwater, Minnesota. Our campus is nestled within the forest, giving students access to more than 900 acres of woodlands, trails, wetlands, and outdoor learning spaces.

Yes. River Grove is a tuition-free Minnesota public charter school open to students entering grades K–5 from anywhere in the state. All Minnesota families are eligible to apply, and if applications exceed available space, enrollment is determined through a state-required lottery process. No. River Grove operates as an independent Minnesota public charter school district (#4254). This independence allows our school to make decisions quickly and respond directly to the needs of our students, families, and school community.

We currently offer one to two sections of each grade level with a maximum class size of 25 students. Our small-school environment allows teachers to build meaningful relationships with students and provide individualized support.

Our fully licensed teachers are committed to supporting every student’s growth and success. We use a variety of assessments, including NWEA MAP Growth, to understand each student's progress and learning needs. Teachers differentiate instruction to support a wide range of abilities, interests, and learning styles while creating a welcoming environment where every child feels supported and challenged to grow.

Our school day begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 3:15 p.m. Our unique campus includes a variety of learning spaces, and our slightly longer school day provides the time needed for students to comfortably transition throughout campus while participating in outdoor learning and play opportunities. Students also have two daily outdoor free play periods, offering opportunities to explore, build friendships, stay active, and develop independence in a natural setting.

Yes, we own and manage our own buses that serve families throughout Stillwater and the surrounding area. Because we own our own buses and employ our own drivers, we have the flexibility to do more field trips to local historical sites, performances, and educational venues.

While we create our own school calendar, we consider the Stillwater Area Schools calendar because many of our families have children in both districts. Although our campus is surrounded by nature, all of our buildings have access to high-speed internet. While technology is not a regular part of our programming, classes may use it on a limited basis to enhance learning. We view technology as a tool to support learning rather than a substitute.
